Eric Sloane (1905–1985) was an American author, artist, meteorologist and sometime philosopher. His love for early Americana, nature and meteorology resulted in more than twenty illustrated books and 15,000 works of art. Living in rural Connecticut he painted landscapes in the tradition of the Hudson River School. He also had a home in Taos, New Mexico where he painted western landscapes and was inspired by the blue sky and cloud formations. He was commissioned by the U. S. Air Force and produced illustrated works on meteorology and weather forecasting. After studying the early Farmer's Almanacs, Sloane, with the help of local farmers, is credited with creating the first televised weather reporting network. His interest in Early American daily life and folklure led him to amass an impressive collection of material culture. He was considered the foremost authority on Early American rural architecture and Early American tools.
