Joseph Christian Leyendecker (1874-1951) paintings appeared on the covers of The Saturday Evening Post for over forty years, beginning in 1899. His "New Year's baby" was a topical commentary on the times. He created the handsome young man for the Arrow Collar Company ad. He and his brother, Frank both had successful American illustration careers.
