CollectionArtArtistFrederic Sackrider Remington

Frederic Sackrider Remington (1861-1909) was a painter, illustrator, sculptor and writer. Realizing the Old West was disappearing, he set out to paint the Native Americans, cowboys, militia men, U.S. Cavalry and settlers. Some of his first drawings were sent to Collier's and Harper's. He eventually became a staff member for Harper's Weekly. He was sent, as an artist-reporter, to Arizona to cover the war against Geronimo and later the Spanish-American War where he painted Roosevelt's Rough Riders. Maintaining a relationship with Harper's, Remington established a sucessful career as both a painter and sculptor. He is most famous for both his paintings and bronzes of the West.
