F. Winold Reiss (1886–1953) was a German-born American artist and graphic designer. He immigrated to America in 1913 and developed a major interest in Native Americans. He did over 250 paintings of Native Americans, especially the Blackfeet. His paintings of the Blackfeet were the basis of much of Great Northern Railway's advertising from the 1920's to the 1960's. His sensitive portraits of African Americans and African-inspired designs showed his dedication to picturing the honor, beauty, and dignity of all peoples. His brightly colored covers and illustrations appeared in Scribner's Magazine, Survey Graphic, Opportunity Magazine, and numerous other publications. Reiss blended Art Deco designs with portraits in his murals that captured the history of Cincinnati for the Cincinnati Union Terminal. Fourteen of the murals are now in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. When he died the Blackfeet spread his ashes along the eastern edge of Glacier National Park.
