Native American Chromolithograph by Julian Scott. Titled, "Issue Day, Indians Running Beef Before Killing - Kiowa, Comanche and Wichita Agency, Oklahoma, 1890." It's a poignant lithograph showing three mounted braves with rifles pursuing a pair of domestic steers in what is a sad parody of the once great buffalo hunts. A note by Scott on the plate identifies the locale as Anadarko, I.T. From the scarce Indians Taxed. Dated 1890 but published in 1894. The print is marked, "Eleventh Census of the United States, Robert P. Porter, Superintendent, Indians, Julian Scott, A.N.A., Sackett & Wilhelms Litho Co. New York." Print is 9 x 11. Good condition with minor age and foxing, taped to mat.
